Take Risks PosterGreater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day is a high school program with a focus on the fine arts. Students attend their home districts in the morning before coming to the Academy for intensive classes in the arts. While here, students work with professional artist instructors in a chosen discipline. Students benefit greatly from our instructors who bring their professional experience into the classroom on a daily basis. Graduates from our program are prepared for some of the more competitive college programs and professional careers. Areas of study we offer include,

Program Structure

Comedy of ErrorsAll Arts Academy students spend considerable time per week pursuing artistic excellence under the guidance of practicing arts professionals and educators. Students involved in productions and exhibitions spend additional time in rehearsals and in preparation outside of normal school hours.

The curriculum is professionally oriented and highly structured. Art courses  are offered in a number of disciplines. Many of these classes surpass the state’s high school graduation requirements in the areas of physical education and the arts. It is understood that all students are individuals, and progress at different rates. The faculty pays attention to the backgrounds, strengths and needs of each student in order for students to meet each course objective.

Accomplishments and Post Graduate Plans

The majority of students who graduate from the Academy go on to college and successful careers. Much of our alumni have gone on to do notable things within the arts. While at the Academy, many of our students have been recipients of various awards and scholarships. Click below to learn more.

Visiting Artists

Venessa GermanThe Academy's visiting artists program brings outstanding guest artists to the Academy for master classes and presentations. These professional contacts enrich the curriculum as well as provide a realistic perspective on artistic careers.

Attendance at performances and master classes conducted by guest artists help to supplement the students’ learning experiences. Throughout their years at the Academy, students receive information on performing arts careers so that they can begin to make decisions about their own future training and choice of careers.


Dance StudioThe  Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day program celebrates the diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds of its students and staff. In a multicultural community such as this, students share their love of the arts while developing a greater understanding of each other. . Arts Academy courses include material from contemporary America, around the world, and from previous centuries. By sharing the traditions and achievements of various artists, instructors encourage students to be receptive to their own possibilities and to the work of others.

The Learning Corridor

Learning Corridor The Half Day program is located on Hartford's scenic Learning Corridor Campus and is home to a Theater, Black Box Theater, Recital Hall, Dance Studios, Music Practice rooms, Recording Studio, Visual Arts Studios, Acting Spaces, and Art Galleries.
