Performers and visual artists from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day helped kick start Hartford’s Festival of Trees. In an annual holiday tradition, the Wadsworth Atheneum exhibits work from local artists in what is known as the “Festival of Trees & Traditions.” Taking part again were visual arts majors from the Academy Half Day.

This year, the school’s young artists presented a collaborative multimedia display. The students created a variety of multifaceted ornaments inspired by contemporary artists from around the world such as Yayoi Kusama, Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, and Peju Alatise. The tree will be on display until Sunday, December 8th.

In addition to the gallery, opening day saw performances from the Academy’s dance majors who presented Alwin Nikolais’ piece “Mechanical Organ.”. The rest of the afternoon saw several solo pieces created by the dance students as well as performances by the music and musical theater departments.

The Festival of Trees runs from November 29- December 8th.
