Theater Design and Production students had a chance to see first hand their art form in action. On May 15, ten seniors took a train to New York City to witness a TV Show rehearsal and get a backstage tour of a Broadway show.

The day started off with them attending a rehearsal for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. During that time, they watched as the director, producers, and Colbert himself  rework jokes, rehearse various bits, and hold creative discussions on show content. They then made their way into the studio control room to watch the crew work out camera angles and shots for that evening’s musical guest Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats.

Afterwards, they went further Midtown to the Broadhurst Theatre to see an evening performance of Anastasia the Musical followed by a backstage tour where they viewed up close the various set pieces and costumes.

The trip was organized by artist instructor and lighting designer Robyn Joyce. In order to make the trip possible, members of the senior class held various fundraisers which included selling show buttons, a school dance, and various bake sales.
