We are proud to announce that Alexa Melonopoulos Fleury has been chosen as Teacher of the Year by the Arts School Network. Founded in 1981, Arts School Network is a non-profit association founded in 1981 with a mission to inspire emerging and seasoned leaders in K-16 arts schools by providing quality resources, support, and networking opportunities to elevate their institutions. In recent years, the Academy has been honored as a “School of Excellence” and was awarded the “Outstanding Arts School Award” three times. Alexa is also affiliated with the Judy Dworin Performance Project and is on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Dance Alliance. She is an alumna of the Academy Half-Day Program and joined the faculty as our Dance Chair in 2013. Later this year, Alexa will receive the award at the annual Arts School Network Conference.

Eighteen juniors and seniors from the Dance Department attended the Regional High School Dance Festival in Norfolk, Virginia in March 2024. Our students joined over 600 students from 54 arts high schools for performances, workshops, lectures and master classes with leading dance artists.
