The CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts HALF-DAY Program provides high school students, from the Capitol region and beyond, with focused training in the arts. Students, who attend, choose a major from six different arts disciplines: Dance, Music (instrumental or vocal), Musical Theater, Theater, Theater Design and Production, and Visual Arts. All classes are taught by professional Artist-Instructors.

The Arts Half-day Program has received many awards, including “Best Arts Magnet School” by the Arts Schools Network and “School of Distinction” from Magnet Schools of America.

2021-22 Application process begins on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2021

Acceptance to the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-day Program is done through a lottery; registration is done through the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO). Students entering Grades 9-12 are welcome to apply. Tuition is covered by participating school districts, and transportation is provided by CREC.

We are excited to present Choreographers’ Showcase for our 19th season. This year, we are collaborating with Carter Alexander, Jolett Creary, and Deborah Goffe. Additionally, we are performing Martha Graham’s “Steps in the Street” as it is staged by Academy Director and former Martha Graham ensemble member Kim Stroud.
