The Academy has generated some great artist connections over the years. Therefore, when the school decided to perform A Chorus Line for its 2018 spring musical, they invited someone from the hit Broadway show’s original cast with connections to CREC and the Academy.

On Wednesday, April 11th, accomplished Broadway performer Carolyn Kirsch, stopped by to watch the cast rehearse. While there, she shared with them her personal experience of working with the show’s original director Michael Bennet and about the work shopping process. A Chorus Line was an experiment in using the workshop process in musical theatre, a process that was originally reserved for experimental theatre groups but later became the normal practice after A Chorus Line’s success.

During the rehearsal, Kirsch gave some professional pointers to the cast. She then later pulled aside Academy sophomore Maddie Duval to work individually. Duval plays the role of Cassie whom Kirsch was an understudy for in the original 1975 production.

She was in attendance during the Academy’s opening night on April 27th.

In addition to A Chorus Line, Carolyn Kirsch had been cast in numerous Broadway shows including Sweet Charity, Coco, and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
