A young violinist from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half Day spent an afternoon collaborating with world
renowned violinist Randall Goosby. On January 16, Hartford senior Jose Ortiz, who studies violin at the Academy, had the
opportunity work with Goosby in what is one of a series of masterclasses offered by the school.
At the time, Goosby was in Hartford performing as a featured soloist for the Hartford Symphony Orchestra’s
performance of Vivaldi’s 4th Season. He was invited to come to the Academy by Music Dept. Chair Gene Bozzi,
who also performs as the percussionist for the HSO. According to Ortiz, the opportunity to perform for Goosby was an impactful
moment. Goosby was impressed by Ortiz’s skills that he invited him as a guest to see the performance at the Bushnell.
