Sageseeker Productions in Hartford will showcase several performances this weekend. Two of whom are Academy alumni. On Saturday, October 20, La Sala Femme in Hartford will feature performances by Arien Wilkerson, class of 2009, and Brittney Crush (Brittney Melvin) class of 2011.
Wilkerson will be dancing on a percussive set by PUERTOMINICANA. Arien studied at the Academy studying with Jolet Creary and Deborah Goffe. While a junior at the Academy, Wilkerson traveled to Cape Verde to participate in a youth residency arts program “CulturArte.” While an Academy senior, noted choreographers David Dorfman and Nicole Stanton recognize Arien as a ground breaking choreographer and selected their work for inclusion in Wesleyan’s Dance Masters program. Arien is now a very successful choreographer, movement, video and installation artist.
Brittney Melvin, going by the stage name “Brittney Crush” studied voice at the Academy. She has since performed with Gloria Gaynor and walked in last year’s New York Fashion week. Her latest release “Chameleon” is written from the perspective of a strong Latina woman chasing her goals while balancing love, heartbreak and sacrifice. It is available for download here.
