Academy artist instructor Gail Fresia is the 2020 recipient of the International Art Schools Network’s Teacher of the Year Award!
Gail joined GHAA Half-day in 2004 as an Artist-Instructor for the Theater Design and Production Department as well as the costume designer for all Academy productions. Throughout her illustrious professional career, she collaborated Maurice Scendak for a Pilobolus performance. Other notable accomplishments include Cirque du Soleil, Hartford Ballet, and the Rolling Stones. She was nominated for an Izzy Award for a performance art piece on the underground railroad which was performed in San Francisco and at Jacob’s Pillow. She has produced work throughout the United States, Taiwan, Brazil, and Mexico.
Many of her students have gone on to professional careers in fashion and costume design. These include Zoe Grinfeld, Asia Williams, and Maggie Clapis among others.
Every year, the Arts School Network recognizes many art schools and teachers in various categories. Gail was nominated last spring by her Academy colleagues and was subsequently announced the winner in November.
