Eighteen juniors and seniors from the Dance Department attended the Regional High School Dance Festival in Norfolk, Virginia in March 2024. Our students joined over 600 students from 54 arts high schools for performances, workshops, lectures and master classes with leading dance artists. Students also had the opportunity to audition for college, university and summer dance programs. Approximately 45 college dance programs attended the event and our students received numerous acceptances and scholarships to some of the top programs in the country.

Our students were able to see alumnus Rickey Flagg, Class of 2009, perform with Collage Dance Collective at the Chrysler Hall/Virginia Arts Festival as part of the opening night festivities. Students and faculty enjoyed a wonderful visit with Rickey after the performance.

Finally, we were thrilled that our students were selected through adjudication to perform “Abravanel” at the Saturday evening Gala Concert held at the Roper Theater in Norfolk, VA. “Abravanel” was choreographed by Kate Sutter and staged by Lynn Peterson of SYREN Modern Dance and was part of this year’s Choreographers’ Showcase performance (with funding from the Roberts Foundation).
