Music majors at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-Day were gifted earlier this week with a live performance from acapella group Radius.

Taking a stop on their current tour, the group spent the afternoon with our students performing and discussing the evolution of Acapella music. The set opened with a cover of the Jackson 5’s  “I Want You Back” and continued with a demonstration of sacred music.  The performance continued with performances of jazz and doo wop (The Lion Sleeps Tonight), and a demonstration of the vocal improvisations of Bobby McFerrin. They ended their set with modern day pop performing “Die With a Smile” from Lady Gaga and Brun Mars.

Following the performance, the students engaged in a brief question and answer session with the group.

The Academy’s “Real Ambassadors” Jazz Choir performed for the  group immediately afterwards.
