Mission Statement

At the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts - Half Day, a free public magnet school, professional artist-instructors provide rigorous and relevant training in a diverse and inclusive artistic community. Through the daily curriculum, masterclasses with industry professionals, and authentic opportunities for students to showcase their work, we prepare emerging artists for college and careers.

Vision

All emerging artists will leave the Academy with the skills and attributes articulated in our Portrait of an Emerging Artist: resilient, empathetic, critical thinkers, activists, collaborators, and communicators, and creators.

Award-Winning Composer Meets Academy Students

Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winning composer-lyricist Marc Shaiman spent time with students at the CREC Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-Day Program, where he shared his experiences writing for television, theater, and film.
